Career and Training
The pathway to becoming an Interventional Neuroradiologist in the UK involves a structured progression through clinical radiology and specialized neuro-interventional training.
- Clinical Radiology ST1–3 – 3 years of core/general radiology, including neuroradiology, imaging and acute clinical work.
- FRCR exams – progress through the FRCR examinations during radiology training. The Final FRCR Part A is completed during core training.
- ST4–6: Interventional Neuroradiology – 3 years of advanced training in diagnostic and interventional neuroradiology, including procedures such as mechanical thrombectomy, aneurysm coiling/flow diversion, AVM treatment and spinal interventions, alongside maintaining general radiology skills.
- CCT – completion of training leads to CCT and entry onto the GMC Specialist Register, after which you can apply for consultant posts.
